Mental Health Screening for Pregnant Women

pregnant_womanOne of our staff members recently gave birth to her first child!  Her prenatal care included a lot of visits to the OB/GYN.

At Families for Depression Awareness, we often talk about the pressing need for primary care and other physicians to screen for mental health during routine visits.  She was happy to report that, throughout her pregnancy, she was asked about her emotional and mental well-being by her nurse practitioner and OB/GYN.

In addition to the verbal check-ins, she was given prenatal and postpartum depression screening forms.  Both her and baby are well, and we’d like to encourage other medical professionals to support expectant mothers’ mental health.
